Adith Krishna, young cricketer passes away
Adith Krishna, a keen cricketer and son of S. Vasudevan, former captain of Tamil Nadu’s Ranji trophy winning team passed away following a cardiac arrest on July 8. Adith was a studying at Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar.
Chennai student wins Intel International award
J.Vishnu, a student class XI at Chettinad Vidyashram has won the second prize at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2009 (Intel ISEF) for his innovation on microbial fuel cell based on graphite electrode. His innovation under the guidance of Prof. T. S. Natarajan of Indian Institute of Technology Madras, has the potential of reducing the cost of providing power supply to rural areas which do not have proper access to power.

School boy dies as makeshift goal post collapses
S. Karthik, student of class 7 at K. C. Sankaralinga Nadar Higher Secondary School died when the goal post on hich he was playing by swinging from one end to the other in the school premises. The boy had come to the school at around 6 am with a few friends to play, telling his mother that he was leaving early for the school to participate in NCC training programme.

Dr. Kasturirangan, former head of Indian Space Research Organisation, inaugurated the school Vidya Mandir @ Estancia on June 11. Estancia is an integrated township on GST road, near SRM University, jointly promoted and developed by L&T and Arun Excello. The school is an arm of Vidya Mandir, Mylapore and will be managed by a committee under the Vidya Mandir MLC School Society.
Science workshop for teachers
A workshop for school teachers responsible for students of classes 6 to 12, under the International Leadership in Education programme to improve science curriculum and instruction is being organised in Chennai.
Organised by the US department for Education and Cultural Affairs, the three-day workshop will be conducted by professor Mary Jo Gardina of The School of Education, Drexel University, Philadelphia, from June 15 to 17 at the Padma Sarangapani Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Villivakkam. Two teachers per school can register for the workshop.
